PUBLIC DIALOGUE - REGISTRATION

Public dialogue Registration

Date 25 AUGUST 2012

With Farieda and Karen

Welcome to the Apartheid Museum’s Public Dialogue “Black Neurosis White Neurosis”

This public dialogue includes a brief introduction to Frantz Fanon and Steve Biko, as well as relating their ideas to South Africa today.

It further relates South African aspirations to the key Fanonian concept of 'Black neurosis' and Biko's proudly Black concept.

The talk references how this impacts our daily decisions regarding fashion, hair, cars etc. and how it links to our racial, gender and class stereotypes. It extends to 'white neurosis'.

Participants are invited to engage in looking at where we are as a nation as far as healing from discrimination-wounding-aftermath.

The public dialogue is one of the activities organised in conjunction with the After Math exhibition, an on-going project that explores art as social research. One of the project aims is to establish whether abstract sculpture and video work installation, are potential methods of evoking emotional or cathartic responses in viewers.
