BLACK & WHITE NEUROSES : SOUTH AFRICA TODAY

Public Dialogue - 25th August 2012 at the Apartheid Museum

The public dialogue includes a brief introduction to Frantz Fanon and Steve Biko, as well as relating their ideas to South Africa today.

It further relates South African aspirations to the key Fanonian concept of 'Black neurosis' and Biko's proudly Black concept.

The talk references how this impacts our daily decisions regarding fashion, hair, cars etc and how it links to our racial, gender and class stereotypes. It extends to 'white neurosis'.

What are your thoughts on this ? Let's start talking now? Your comments will be welcomed!

Black and White Neuroses: Talking Cure

Welcome to the new Apartheid Museum Blog!

Are we still thinking in black and white?

We would to invite you to participate in the first of our new series of talks related to socio-politics in South Africa today. The underpinning theory of this dialogue is rooted in the Fanonian concept of 'black neuroses'. The intention is to challenge young South Africans to think critically about current social behavioural norms, to evoke discussion, raise awareness and provoke critical engagement amongst the participants.

The series will be launched on 25th August 2012 in our auditorium. The official invitations will be sent via email and posted on our social networks.

We would further like to extend an invitation to share your thoughts on our blog, ask questions, raise concerns, intoduce new topics, etc.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
